South Georgia Medical Center's Ground Breaking Ceremony

VALDOSTA, Ga. (May 24, 2007) – South Georgia Medical Center of Valdosta, GA., held a ground breaking ceremony, Thursday, May 24, 2007 for its new Ambulatory Surgery Center and Medical Office Building.

Several community officials and hospital supporters gathered around the construction site, located at the corner of Patterson and Cowart Streets. Pinnacle began construction on the new facilities May 29, 2007 with an anticipated completion date within the next year which will further enhance the quality of health care services available at SGMC.

The three-story, structural steel, Medical Office Building will cover 75,749 square feet of the property and will hold lease space for up to 20 office suites. The facility will also house a satellite laboratory facility, retail space and SGMC's Cardiac Rehab facility. Once the building is complete, following 12 months of construction, several area physicians' practices will relocate to the new state-of the art facility.

The new Ambulatory Surgery Center, which will operate as a free-standing outpatient surgery center for same-day surgical procedures will feature four operating rooms and one cystoscopy room. This facility will allow patients to undergo procedures such as cataract removals and tonsillectomies. This $18.2 million facility is expected to open in early summer of 2008. There will be 490 parking spaces added to serve individuals using either facility.

Joining Thursday's ground-breaking was Walt Gill, President of Pinnacle; Seth Benator with Perkins & Will Architectural Firm; James McGahee, CEO of South Georgia Medical Center; William S. Cowart, Chairman of the Hospital Authority and Bill Rountree of the Hospital Authority. Also in attendance was Valdosta Mayor John Fretti and Lowndes County Commission Chairman, Rod Casey who shared their views on where SGMC's additions and expansions are expected to take the Valdosta-Lowndes County area over future years. Representing Pinnacle were Walt Gill, President; Tom Hutchinson, Project Executive; Renae Hein, Project Manager; Patty Burkett, Director of Business Development and Robin McDaniel, Superintendent.
